Office of Investigations (OI)

We are looking for motivated, creative, public-service oriented college students interested in investigating allegations of fraud and misconduct related to SSA programs, operations, and employees.

An internship with the Office of Investigations will provide you with hands on experience, allowing you to see the work that goes into federal criminal investigations. You will work with Special Agents both in the office and out in the field and received marketable and meaningful work experience.

Past interns have contributed to SSA OIG’s mission by:

  • Assisting with reviewing and compiling documentary evidence.
  • Conducting data analysis, which may entail creating graphs, charts, and spreadsheets.
  • Inventorying property.
  • Observing and working with Special Agents in the field.
  • Sitting in on interviews.
  • Assisting with preparing cases and writing reports.
  • Attending meetings with executives across the OIG
