If you received a call from a scammer pretending to be from the IRS, report them to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration .

Our office does not investigate the loss or theft of personal property including wallets and purses containing personal identification. If your Social Security card is stolen, contact your local police department to file a report. Visit https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ to apply for a replacement Social Security card.

If someone incorrectly listed your Social Security number or your child’s Social Security number on their tax return, or if the IRS has notified you that your refund cannot be processed because someone else has already used your Social Security number on their tax return, you should contact the IRS at the phone number listed on the IRS notice, or visit the IRS’ Identity Protection website .

If you think your personal information was used to fraudulently submit an unemployment insurance or disaster unemployment assistance claim, report it to the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Inspector General .
