Pennsylvania Man Charged with $91,000 Social Security Fraud

A Bryn Mawr man is facing charges in connection with the alleged theft of thousands of dollars against the United States government in a scheme to defraud the Social Security system when he claimed that he could not work due to an injury. However, investigators say the man was working while he collected nearly $91,000 in benefits for himself and his son over the past four years.

Authorities have identified the man as Emmitt R.O. Jackson III.

According to the indictment charging him, in 2008 Jackson told of the Social Security Administration that he was not working and had been unable to work since July 17, 2007. However, investigators say that as of at least September of 2008, Jackson was working for a church and should have reported the income to the government. In failing to inform the Social Security Administration of his job, investigators say, Jackson illegally collected $67,322 for himself and another $23,592 for his dependent child.

According to officials, if convicted, Jackson could face substantial term of imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, a fine of up to $14.75 million, a $5,900 special assessment and restitution of $90,920.80.
