Texas Man Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison for Stealing Social Security Benefits
Michael Wayne Jobe, who pleaded guilty to stealing Social Security benefits from his two minor children, was sentenced to six months in federal prison and ordered to pay the Social Security Administration $20,298 in restitution for the crime. The sentencing hearing was held on Tuesday before U.S. District Court Judge Rodney Gilstrap. The sentencing was part of a plea-bargain agreement. Upon his release from prison, Jobe will be on supervised release for a term of three years. Judge Gilstrap told him that he wishes him the best, but expects him to abide stringently by the rulings of the court while he’s on probation. “You have a chance to improve your life both for yourself and your children, and I encourage you to make the most of it,” Gilstrap told Jobe. According to court documents, Jobe stole money in the form of Social Security disability insurance benefits beginning in April 2006, and continuing through August 2007, December 2009 and February 2011 in Upshur County. In addition to paying restitution, Jobe will also have to pay the U.S. government a special assessment of $100. He will receive credit for the 181 days he has already served from Sept. 21, 2011, through March 20.
