Indiana Woman Charged in Four-Count Indictment Related to Social Security Disability Payments

February 16, 2012

An Elkhart woman was charged last week in a four-count indictment related to Social Security disability payments, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced today. A grand jury charged Shirley A. Sult, 57, with two counts of converting to her own use Social Security disability payments she received on behalf of two nephews when she was no longer entitled to the payments; and two counts of failing to disclose to the Social Security Administration that her nephews were no longer living with her and therefore not entitled to disability payments. The charges resulted from an investigation by the Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General. The U.S. Attorney’s Office noted that an indictment is an allegation and that all people charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
