Mummified Body Found in Kentucky Trash Can
A death investigation is underway in Lexington after police found a badly decomposed body inside a herbie trash can Wednesday afternoon. The discovery was made around 1:30 p.m. in a wooded area on Fortune Drive, right outside Kentucky Uniforms, a company that makes police uniforms. Investigators said they were acting on a tip regarding a person missing since last December, when they found the body, which was described as being in a mummified state. “It’s very suspicious,” said Karin Arterburn, who works nearby. “You don’t think about something like that happening close to where you work or live.” “It just doesn’t make any sense to me,” said Brandon Henderson, who also works nearby. “It’s not something that you see everyday.” Their co-worker, Sharon Ayer is in shock: “Twilight Zone stuff. Just twilight zone stuff. It’s too close.” “We are working it as a homicide,” said Coroner Gary Ginn. “Anytime you find a human being in a herbie in an industrial park area, that’s obviously unusual circumstances.” The remains were in such bad shape, the coroner couldn’t even tell if they were those of a man or a woman. Based on the evidence Ginn said he will first look into the possibility of a homicide. The Kentucky Medical Forensic Anthropologist is also involved in the investigation. “Sounds like a murder to me. I mean, who kills themselves and puts themselves in a trash can?” said Henderson. Police have not released the identity of the missing person that led them to this discovery. They also said it’s too early to tell if the remains actually belong to that person. The remains have been taken to Frankfort, so they can be identified.
