Strengthen the Integrity and Protection of the Social Security Number

In Fiscal Year 2016, SSA issued over 16 million original and replacement Social Security number (SSN) cards. In addition, for Tax Year 2015, the Agency received and processed about 266 million wage items, totaling approximately $6.3 trillion in earnings.

Assigning SSNs only to those individuals authorized to obtain them, protecting information once the numbers are assigned, and accurately posting earnings reported under SSNs are critical SSA missions.

We oversee SSA's efforts to meet these missions through the following reports.
