Modernize Information Technology

In FY 2018, SSA spent approximately $1.8 billion on IT.  To ensure SSA can keep pace with increasing workloads, it must maintain its legacy systems while, in parallel, developing their modern replacements.  SSA began its Disability Case Processing System (DCPS) project in 2008.  The Agency envisions DCPS to be a common system for all disability determination services that will simplify system support and maintenance, improve the speed and quality of the disability process, and reduce the overall growth rate of infrastructure costs.  SSA has spent $101 million on DCPS through FY 2018.  Cloud computing enables convenient, on-demand access to shared computing resources, including networks, servers, storage, applications, and services.  As of September 2018, SSA had 1 system in its on-site-private cloud environment and 22 systems in an external cloud environment and hosted by 11 cloud service providers.
