The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funded tax cuts and supplements to social welfare programs as well as increased spending for infrastructure. Under ARRA, SSA was provided $500 million to replace SSA’s National Computer Center, $500 million to process disability and retirement workloads as well as information technology acquisitions and research, and $90 million to reimburse costs for processing a one-time, $250 payment to individuals receiving Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits.
