Louisiana Woman Accused of Social Security Disability Fraud

April 23, 2012

Office Affiliation: The Office of Investigations

A Covington woman has been arrested after allegedly filing for and collecting almost $50,000 in Social Security disability benefits for a stepchild who was not in her custody. Nanette Broadus, 44, allegedly submitted fraudulent reports to the Social Security Administration documenting the care and support of her disabled stepson while collecting almost $50,000 in benefits, said Trooper Nick Manale, a State Police spokesman.

However, an investigation involving State Police detectives and the Office of Inspector General for the Social Security Administration determined the child was solely under the care and support of his biological mother, and he had never received any of the benefits collected under his name.

Broadus eventually surrendered herself to investigators and was booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail in Covington last week, Manale said Monday.
