January 13, 2012

Office Affiliation: The Office of Investigations

A 58-year-old Las Vegas accountant has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for stealing more than $525,000 in disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. U.S. Attorney Daniel G. Bogden said Nelson Vazquez was also sentenced Tuesday to three years of supervised release and to pay restitution to the Social Security Administration. Vazquez pleaded guilty in October 2011 to theft of government funds. Social Security Administration and U.S. Treasury investigators alleged that Vazquez improperly received benefits from 1976 to 2000, and that he received more than a half-million dollars’ worth of benefits from February 2003 to September 2010. Bogden says U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks ordered Vazquez to report to federal prison by March 12.A 58-year-old Las Vegas accountant has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for stealing more than $525,000 in disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.
