Inspector General

Gail S. Ennis currently serves as the fourth Inspector General for the Social Security Administration (SSA), having been nominated by President Donald J. Trump for the position in October 2017 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in January 2019.

Under her direction, the SSA Office of the Inspector General inspires public confidence in the integrity and security of SSA by conducting independent and objective audits, evaluations, and investigations directly related to agency programs and operations. Ms. Ennis is responsible for detecting and preventing Social Security fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement, and she informs SSA and the Congress about agency problems and deficiencies and recommends corrective action.
