Improve the Timeliness and Quality of the Disability Process

SSA is facing a considerable increase in initial and reconsideration disability claims, resulting in a significant backlog. The Agency received about 3.2 million initial claims and more than 832,000 reconsideration claims in Fiscal Year 2012. In addition, in 2012, SSA had over 707,000 initial disability claims pending.
